How can I check my credit rating before I apply for a mortgage?
Answer: Your credit rating is based on a combined score generated from three credit bureaus who look at your credit history, amount of credit available, and recent inquiries to determine what is called a FICO score. For a small fee, you can get your score or review your credit report by going online or by contacting the credit bureaus directly. If you already applied for credit and have been denied due to your credit score, you may be eligible for a free copy of your report by providing the credit bureaus with a copy of the denial letter you received from the creditor.
